New Journal 56 – Planning

I have permission to shoot at Durham Cathedral on Tuesday. That is going to be amazing! And if the weather clears up, Rachel and I will be spending 5 days in Scotland, shooting some rugged landscapes. I’m keen to explore some of Scandinavia and Germany in the next 2 months, too.

My new set of digital blending tutorials, The Art of Cityscapes, will be due out in the beginning of September and I have a few more projects lined up. I’ll almost certainly be creating a comprehensive set of Beginner to Intermediate Photoshop tutorials by December.

As you can see, I aim to stay busy and keep my camera working. I’ve even managed to create a regular workout routine to combat the wine and cheese belly I inherited from our 6 months in France, and the beer and burger belly that I continued to grow in America.

It’s strangely comforting to have a routine of sorts. It’s been a long time since I’ve had one. Hopefully I won’t get too comfortable, though.

Today’s Photo – The Cloisters Vertorama

This image took 4 hours to create. You may be wondering why on earth it took that long. Unfortunately, Photoshop simply couldn’t stitch the vertorama together.  No matter what I tried, for the first time, I was about to give up of PS and look for an alternative. Instead, I manually distorted, warped, kicked and pulled each frame so that they were perfectly aligned. I was one step away from manually stitching the verto myself. In the end, however, PS got the hint and did its job.

The fact is, I’m not really in love with this image, but I had too much pride to give up. And now that I’ve finished it, I’m bloomin’ well going to publish it 🙂

Nice work and the place makes me think about some fiction or fantasy story..

Hi Jimmy. I absolutely love the work you do. This may seem a stupid question, but I’ll ask anyway. Have you heard of a nodal ninja. (Seriously) ideal for doing vertorama.
Going to Paris tomorrow for 3 nights, after seeing your work from last year it has given me inspiration for this trip.
