New Journal 26 – Lots of choices

Rachel pointed out to me this morning that there seems to be a lot of food and drink choices in NYC. When we ask for a sandwich, we go through a small interview before we get it.

Here’s a conversation I had yesterday night at a bar.

Me: “Good evening good sir, may I order a cheese burger?”

Waiter: “How do you want it?”

Me: “Is medium a correct answer?”

Waiter: “What cheese? American, Swiss, Blue…”

Me: “American Swiss, please”

Rachel: “It’s either American or Swiss, Jimmy”

Me: “American”

Waiter “Tomatoes, salad….?”

Me: “Indeed”

Granted this was a short exchange. Sometimes they go on longer and you have very little clue what you’ve just ordered.

In England a typical exchange between a customer and waiter goes more like this:

Me: “Could I have a cheese burger, please?”

Waiter: “That’ll be £8.99”.

We went to a diner and had a cheesecake milkshake. They literally threw some cheesecake in a blender with some milk and served it up. This was a recent discovery and our waiter was very excited about us testing it. Apart from the potential diabetes it may have induced, I gave it the thumbs up.

I still haven’t tried meatloaf, which, as I understand it, is made from a rare bread-shaped animal that lives only in the US.

Today’s Photo – Church in Santiago

I toned much of the colour down in this image apart from the wooden box to give it a bit more presence.

The red door at the very bottom of the photo need some work. Various people walked or stood on the right hand side of the door, leaving unwanted ghosts. I just copied the left hand side, which was still intact, and flipped it, while masking our some areas and free-transforming it so that it fit correctly.

I added the ray of light in the corridor in post-processing to increase the mood and mystery of the image.
