French Journal Day 133 (Travel Diary Day 213)
Our first 3 days in Paris are shaping up to be more action-packed than the entire 6 weeks we’ve spent in Burgundy. It’s been a time of both tranquility and productivity here but not much in the way of adventure.
After getting acquainted with our neighbourhood on Friday and potentially going out to take some photos, we have the HDR One photowalk to attend to, and to finish the weekend we’ll be enjoying ourselves at a French pub quiz with Parisian friends. I’m almost certain that we’ll perform badly, but who knows, after a few beers I may unlock some hidden knowledge and a wealth of the French language that isn’t usually accessible to me in a sober state.
Rachel has been vacuuming the house in time for the owners’ return. The interesting thing about this place is that it is alive, or at least I like to think of it that way. The vacuum system, you see, is built into the walls. There’s no vacuum cleaner, just a massive pipe that plugs into various parts of the wall around the house which takes all of the dust and dirt to a magical place, the location of which I cannot discover, like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
It’s odd but not out of tune with the rest of this gadget-driven home. The bins open automatically and the lights are movement activated. I’ve almost forgotten how to turn a light on. In the evenings I have so many remote controls around me I have no idea what’s happening. I just press buttons and hope for the best.
We’ll be in a small, cozy apartment in Paris, remniscent of our days in our little Korean apartment. We can’t wait.
Today’s Photo – Rocks at Ngobaran beach, Yogyakarta
Two local photographers very generously took us to this beach when we lived in Yogya. The jagged rocks make for very interesting subjects.
